Food Poisoning and Friends

Okay, so, this is how it went down. On Tuesday, I drove down to Utah because I had a doctor's appointment that I have been waiting months for, and I figured I would visit some friends and do some shopping for the nursery while I was down there. Well, Tuesday afternoon I meet up with my best friend, Dani, and we have the brilliant idea to get some Cafe Rio to eat while we watch The Bachelor. What could go wrong with such a delicious Provo staple, right? Wrong. (Before I go on, I will try to not ruin Cafe Rio for everyone by saying that I have had food poisoning 3 times in the last 5 years. I can eat food that other people are fine with, but I get sick. I must just have a super weak stomach.)

I shouldn't post this picture. I can't even stand to look at it anymore. Well, the night goes on and I start to feel ickier and ickier. Dani and her husband, Pete, leave for the night shift while all hell breaks loose inside my sweet pork filled stomach. I started throwing up around midnight and it just kept going every 30 minutes for a few hours. At 4am, after a "woe is me" conversation with my husband, who is still in Wyoming, I decide to call my Doctor's office to see how long I would have to be throwing it up for it to be a danger to my babies. Well, the nurse on call told me that dehydration was really bad, especially with a high risk pregnancy. She told me to get my butt to the ER RIGHT NOW before the dehydration put me in pre-term labor. At 17 weeks, that scared the crap out of me, and I called Dani and she sent Pete home to drive me to the ER. Well, they hydrated me and put some Zofran in my IV. They said if I still couldn't keep fluids down in a few more hours, then I needed to come back. Unfortunately, the Zofran didn't help the nausea, it just made it so I couldn't throw up, which was even more uncomfortable.

After a sleepless night, I started trying to get myself ready for the 9:30 am appointment that I drove to Utah for in the first place, but I started throwing up again before I could make it through the door, and Dani and Pete forbade me to drive and took me to Salt Lake. Seriously, I have the best friends ever.

They were already up all night working! I didn't know how I was going to make it through this very important appointment though. I threw up in the car, in the parking garage, and twice in my doctor's office. Gross. But Dani even came in with me for some moral support and to remember what he said in case I couldn't. The appointment went well and they even set me up to be hydrated in the office, so I didn't have to make another trip to the ER! After that, I was finally able to keep down ice chips, and started to feel better over the next 12-24 hours. It's funny, whenever I have food poisoning, I know that the worst is over in 24 hours, and yet it feels like the LONGEST 24 hours of my entire life!!

Well, while this might seem like a depressing post, it's really not. While food poisoning is terrible, I was so blessed over those few days. First, I have such awesome friends that are so selfless and willing to help me through a hard time. Second, I made it to my appointment that I have been waiting forever for and drove from Wyoming for (and it went well!) But most importantly, everything is great with my precious little babies! Their health and well being is all I could ever ask for.
